Adapters

A downspout adapter simply connects square or rectangular downspout piping to round piping running away from the building, often referred to as a “roof drain leader.” This connection is typically made at or above finished grade. This type of connection requires the use of lightweight downspout running all the way to finished grade and piping next to the building running vertically up to finished grade.

With the exception of gum and duct tape (and we’ve seen both in use), adapters are the lowest-cost connection option. Adapters are also sometimes used in light commercial buildings to form a connection in concrete slabs.

Types of Downspout Adapters

A1

A1 Downspout Adapter
  • 12ga. 304 stainless steel construction provides a permanent transition from downspout to any size or type of piping
  • Ground level protection of light weight downspout at ground level from damage by snow or lawn equipment
  • “Stab Fit” outlets eliminate ugly external coupling at finished grade
  • Easy to install
  • Available with 4”x4”, 5”x5” and 6”x6” inlets and 4” or 6” outlets (available in other sizes)
  • Perfect for small and medium commercial or custom residential projects

A2

A2 Downspout Adapter
  • Available in large inlet and outlet sizes
  • Provides ground level downspout protection from high energy impact damage
  • Smooth flow design with high water flow capacity
  • “Stab Fit” outlets eliminate ugly external coupling at finished grade
  • Perfect for large commercial installations in paved areas. Units can be installed after concrete or asphalt is installed
  • Available in 12ga. 304 stainless or 11ga. carbon steel and heavy 11ga. aluminum construction.

Shoes

A downspout shoe connects square, rectangular, or round downspout piping to the “roof drain leader.” The connection is made at or just below finished grade, and the connection to the downspout piping is typically made one to three feet above finished grade. In addition, a downspout shoe provides ground level protection from impacts of lawn equipment, snow removal equipment, rogue soccer balls, and more. However, this type of connection still requires the use of pipe and fittings next to the building’s foundation to transition the flow of water from vertical to horizontal.

Ground level discharge downspout shoes are designed to evacuate rainwater onto a splash block or a paved area and direct the flow of water away from the building. Since the outlet of this style shoe is open to atmosphere, and not tied into a storm water collection piping, there is normally no need to provide a clean-out on the downspout shoe itself.

Types of Downspout Shoes

SG

SG Downspout Shoes
  • Provides extended protection to any height for the light gauge metal downspout against damage from heavy equipment, vehicular traffic, vandals, snow and lawn equipment, and other high energy impacts.
  • Clean modern look with no visible mounting lugs or unsightly mounting hardware
  • One piece construction in any size or height. Other products require extensions and additional mounting hardware.
  • Full size body. Other products provide full size connection inlets attached to undersized “stock” body sizes. This practice reduces the available flow area in many of their offered sizes.
  • Approximately 1/3 the weight of cast iron connections of the same size allows for easy one man installations.
  • As a standard, the units are provided with a thick UV resistant polyurethane powder coat finish in any of our standard colors.
  • Can be provided in 12ga. 304 stainless steel, 11ga. carbon steel or 11ga. aluminum construction
  • This unit is provided with an angled outlet that is open to atmosphere and is intended for use with “splash blocks”

SO

SO Downspout Shoes
  • Provides extended protection to any height for the light gauge metal downspout against damage from heavy equipment, vehicular traffic, vandals, snow and lawn equipment, and other high energy impacts.
  • Can be provided with either standard or debris evacuation style cleanout ports. This may eliminate the need for expensive in-line cleanouts that are lost and broken shortly after installation.
  • Clean modern look with no visible mounting lugs or unsightly mounting hardware
  • “Stab Fit” outlets sized to fit the ID of any piping at finished grade eliminate the need for couplings at or below finished grade. This also allows for the units to be installed after concrete and or asphalt has been laid.
  • The units are provided with a 21/2” vertical offset nipple at the bottom of the unit. This offset allows for the piping conflicts near the building, such as footers. Custom offsets are available and can be moved to the top of the unit to accommodate copings and ledges.

Boots

A downspout boot makes a connection between downspout and roof drain leader providing for a smooth transition of water flow from vertical to horizontal without the use of external pipe and fittings. Boots eliminate the use of pipe and fittings at or just below finished grade next to the building and provide for access and maintenance of below-ground piping through an optional above ground clean out. Boots also provide ground-level protection from impacts.
